Moodboard

Image
For my mood board, I already had my main scenes decided, so I used this to plan out exactly how I wanted everything to feel. For the first scene, we are seeing the threat for the first time. The scene has blues to make the audience feel calm, before the danger is seen. the next scene is greys and monochrome to keep the tensions that the audience feels, before the nostalgia of the house is shown to hopefully give a uncanny valley/uneasy feel to the house (where our main character will be.) Not only do I decide the colors, but also the music, sound, and even camera shots and some general notes.

Target Audience

I picked these questions, since I had a general idea of what I wanted to do for my short film, but not exactly how I want to execute it. So, I came up with these questions to decide how exactly I want to scare my audience. I got my responses by asking my friends, and luckily my friends have platforms with lots of followers, so I asked them to make a small post and got responses. The information from this survey definitely helped, since I know now to show the hat man instead of hide him the entire time.

"My Film Opening Project - Horror and no group members

The genre of my future project is going to be horror. I am picking this genre because ever since I was young, I was always mad at horror movies. At least, new ones that didn't really try. I remember sitting on my couch at 13 being bored by jump scares and thinking "they have a 100,000+ dollar budget, and this is the best they can do?" I'm not sure I can do better, but that is why I am in this class.  I decided to work on my own since I don't know anyone in my class. But even if I did I think I'd still want to work alone, since I want to make all of creative choices.

Film Opening Research #2 - Silence of the lambs

how many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? 14 titles are displayed throughout the opening sequences. Two being the company's that produced the movie, and they rest being famous actors within the film.  what images are prioritized in the opening sequence? In the first opening sequence, the first scene is a women running (our main character.) You are led to assume she is being chased, before being revealed that she is at a training camp for cops. It then transitions to her in the police office, and questioning about the new case.  what connotations do the images carry? The beginning makes us assume she is in danger. We start feeling fearful of her, and indirectly assume she is weak since she is already being chased. However, when it is revealed to us gradually that it is a military camp, our perspective quickly changes that she is strong and can take care of herself. This sudden perspective change is more powerful then just directly telling the audie...

My five master clips

My five master edits - YouTube This is my master five edits, which I believe to be peak cinema.  The first scene, "Dunken run" Consists of Music, and diegetic sound. The sounds here are straight forward, bringing attention to the overall plot of running to Dunken donuts for coffee. The music brings a cheerful and exciting tone, and the diegetic sound brings more real and relatable effect to the character.  The second scene, "Hunger" features a wide range of sound edits. The entire scene has offscreen sound, post synchronization sound, voiceover, synchronization, diegetic sound, and sonic flashback. Diegetic sound and synchronization/post synchronization helps the character and audience understand her surroundings, helping move the plot along. The voiceover was used cleverly to not only fix a poorly said line, but also provide audio for the sonic flashback later in the scene. The use of post synchronization also helped add the sound effect of hungry chickens in the...
